Ingredients:

   1      tablespoon    butter or margarine
     1/2  cup           diced onion
     1/4  cup           diced green pepper
   1      pound         ground beef
   1      can           tomatoes -- (1 lb. 12 oz.)
   1      teaspoon      salt
     1/2  teaspoon      sugar
     1/4  teaspoon      thyme
   1      small         bay leaf
   1 1/3  cups          precooked rice
 

Preparation:

Over medium heat, melt butter or margarine in large skillet, Add onion, green pepper and groand beef. Cook until meat is browned, spoon off fat. Drain tomatoes, measuring Juice; add enough water to make 1 1/2 cups. Add liquid, tomatoes, salt, sugar, thyme and bay leaf to meat mixture. Cover; simmer 20 to 25 minutes. Stir in rice; cover; simmer 5 minutes longer. Re- move bay leaf before serving.
