Glazed Apple Cheese Pie

   1                    cinnamon stick
   5                    whole         cloves
   1      medium        unpeeled apple -- cored and thinly

   1      package       {3 oz} apple gelatin
   3      ounces        cream cheese -- softened
   1      tablespoon    confectioners' sugar
   1                    prepared 9-inch graham cracker crumb
                        -- crust
                        whipped cream -- (optional)
 

Preparation:

1. Bring 1 cup cold water, cinnamon stick and cloves to a boil in saucepan. 2. Add apple slices; simmer 4 minutes. 3. Drain apples, reserving cooking liquid. Discard spices; chill apple slices. 4. Add enough cold water to reserved liquid to measure 1 cup; bring to a boil. Remove from heat. 5. Mix in apple gelatin until dissolved; stir in 1 cup cold water. 6. Set aside 1 1/4 cups dissolved gelatin at room temperature; chill remaining gelatin until slightly thickened. 7. Beat cream cheese and sugar in small bowl of electric mixer until light and fluffy; gradually beat in thickened gelatin until blended. 8. Pour cheese mixture into prepared crust; chill until nearly firm. 9. Meanwhile, chill reserved gelatin until slightly thickened; spoon a thin layer of thickened gelatin over nearly firm cheese layer. 10. Arrange apple slices on top of pie; spoon remaining thickened gelatin over apple slices. Garnish with whipped cream if desired.
