Date and Nut Bread

Ingredients:

  1                cup  chopped dates
  1 1/2           cups  boiling water
  5        Tablespoons  butter or margarine
  1 1/4           cups  sugar
  1                     egg
  2 3/4           cups  flour -- sifted
  1           teaspoon  salt
  1           teaspoon  soda
  1           teaspoon  vanilla
 

Preparation:

Add dates to boiling water..boiling water softens them...Set aside to cool. Cream butter and sugar together. Add egg. Sift flour, salt and soda together. Add to sugar and egg mixture. Stir in cooled date mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Bake in a greased bread pan @ 325 degree for 1 hour or more until toothpick comes out clean.
