Ingredients:

   1      cup           shortening
   1      cup           brown sugar
   1      teaspoon      vanilla
     1/2  teaspoon      baking powder
   2      cups          oatmeal
   1      cup           shredded coconut
   1      teaspoon      baking soda
   1      cup           white sugar
   2                    eggs
   2      cups          flour -- (unsifted)
     1/2  teaspoon      salt
   2      cups          Rice Krispies
   1      cup           chopped nuts or chocolate chips
 

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 F. Cream shortening and sugars, add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder. Add and mix well. Add and mix oatmeal, Rice Krispies, coconut, and nuts or chocolate chips. Make into small balls or press teaspoonfuls together, flatten slightly. Do not grease cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
