Ingredients:

   1      cup           shortening
   3                    eggs -- well beaten
   1      teaspoon      vanilla
   2      teaspoons     baking soda -- dissolved in
                        hot water
   2      teaspoons     cream of tartar
   3 3/4  cups          flour
   1      cup           chopped nuts -- optional

Preparation:

Mix ingredients. Take a little of the dough the size of a walnut and put on cookie pan. Press down with fork coated with flour. Bake at 350
