Apple Crisp and Variation

Ingredients:

   4                    tart apples -- (or 5), sliced
     2/3  cup           -- packed, up to 3/4
     1/2  cup           all-purpose flour
     1/2  cup           oats
     3/4  teaspoon      ground cinnamon
     3/4  teaspoon      ground nutmeg
     1/3  cup           margarine or butter -- softened
                        cream or ice cream -- (optional)
 

Preparation:

1. Arrange apples in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch square pan. 2. Mix together remaining ingredients; sprinkle over apples. 3. Bake in preheated 375 F. oven until topping is golden brown and apples are tender, about 30 minutes. 4. Serve warm and, if desired, with cream or ice cream. Apricot Crisp (Variation) Substitute 2 cans (16 ounces each) apricot halves, drained, for the apples and use the lesser amount of brown sugar. Cherry Crisp (Variation) Substitute 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling for the apples and use the lesser amount of brown sugar. Peach Crisp (Variation) Substitute 1 can (29 ounces) sliced peaches, drained, for the apples and use the lesser amount of brown sugar.
