Green Khichidi

Ingredients:

1 cup green moong dal
1/2 cup rice -- up to 3/4, up to
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon ghee
1 teaspoon salt to taste
6 cups water -- (6 to 7)
 

Preparation:

Wash both dal and rice together. Soak for an hour in salted water. Add half the turmeric. Pressure cook dal with half the water. It gets done in about 4 whistles. Transfer to a large saucepan, add remaining water, turmeric, ghee and add more salt if required. Cook while stirring, till the khichidi is thick and well mixed. Mash a little if desired. Serve hot with more ghee (optional) and kadhi.
