APPLE PIE - 9-INCH

Ingredients:

1 package For 9-inch two crust pie
2/3 cup Sugar
1/4 cup All-purpose flour*
1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
1 Dash salt
8 cups Thinly sliced pared tart -- Apples (about 8 medi
2 tablespoons Margarine or butter
 

Preparation:

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare pastry. Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl. Stir in apples. Pour into pastry-lined pie plate. Dot with margarine. Cover with top crust that has slits cut in it; seal and flute. Cover edge with 3-inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove foil during last 15 minutes of baking.Bake 40-50 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust.

To Microwave: Prepare 9-inch pie as directed - except use microwavable pie plate. Microwave uncovered on high 12 to 14 minutes or until filling begins to bubble through slits in crust. Transfer pie to conventional oven (do not preheat). Bake at 450 degrees 12 to 18 minutes or until crust is brown and flaky.

Notes:

You can add 1/2 cup finely shredded Cheddar cheese to the flour when making pastry for an extra-special pie.

* if using self-rising flour omit Salt.
