April Fool Muffins

Ingredients:

1/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg -- well beaten
3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup crisco -- melted
1 piece suggested surprises -- see below
 

Preparation:

Mix dry ingredients. Combine egg, milk, and shortening. Add all at once to dry ingredients. Stir quickly just until dry ingredients are all moistened. Fill well greased muffin pans 1/3 full, using about half of the batter. Put surprise in middle (about 1 teaspoonful). Cover with remaining batter to make cups about 2/3 full. Suggested Surprises: strawberry or raspberry jam, 2 slices of banana pieces of cooked sausage cubes of leftover meat, spicy are best 2-3 seedless grapes slice of apple, size of half dollar 1 rounded tsp. of mixture of confectioners sugar, coconut, butter, (equal parts) and a little nutmeg 1 rounded tsp. of butter, sugar, and raisin (equal parts) plus cinnamon 2-3 red cinnamon candies 2-3 sm. gum drops 2-3 chocolate chips 1 tsp. broken up pieces mint chocolate, "After 8" mints or Andes a nut, honey roasted are good, and for a "trick" an olive a gherkin or sliced pickle a radish cube of extra sharp cheese or use your imagination! Bake at 400 degrees about 25 minutes. Have surprises ready to put in so you can work fast . . . and don't be surprised if you forgot which muffin contains which surpris
