Split Peas And Potatoes

Ingredients:

4 large potatoes -- boiled
2 large onions -- chopped
4 medium green chiles -- (to 5), slit in long strips
2 teaspoons channa dal
1 piece ginger -- finely chopped
1 teaspoon salt -- to taste
1 teaspoon hing -- to taste
1 teaspoon mustard seeds -- to taste
 

Preparation:

An accompaniment to Dosai, Chapati, etc. Heat oil, fry channa dal until golden brown. Add dash of hing and crackle mustard. Sauté onions and green chiles until golden brown. Throw in a few (ca 4) cups of water, add ginger and salt. Let cook for a while. Mash potatoes and dump into above.
