Chives have been enjoyed fresh since the time of the ancient Greeks.

To grow: This hardy perennial, with its lavender flowers, grows to about 18 inches.

As a seasoning: The gentle onion flavor of chives works in soups, sauces and salads. Chives also go well with eggs and chicken entrees. For a change of pace, add chives to cottage cheese or sprinkle on baked potatoes.
